New Year’s Eve Celebration

with Gen Kelsang Sanden

Everyone is welcome to attend this live-streamed New Year’s Eve celebration.

We invite you to have a candle beside you, which you will light as we recite the mantra of the Buddha of compassion, Avalokiteshvara. Bring in the New Year with an experience of what is possible when our mind is full of compassion and wisdom.

Learn about the practice of Avalokiteshvara and be guided in a beautiful meditation taking us beyond the ordinary suffering world we normally inhabit. In this practice we imagine the Buddha compassion at the crown of all living beings, and as we recite his mantra, OM MANI PAME HUM,  we imagine powerful wisdom light rays of compassion radiating from his body pervading the entire world, reaching all living beings and all worlds purifying these of any impurity, or causes of suffering so that all beings become completely free from suffering and nothing in their environment is a cause of suffering.

This practice is a powerful way of benefiting all living beings. Doing this together as a group practice adds  strength to the power of our prayers and wishes as we prepare to start the new year. What better way could we bring in the New Year during the Pandemic and all the troubles arising in these times.

The evening will begin with a short talk by Gen Sanden who will explain the Avalokiteshvara prayers, in particular focusing on the two elements that make this practice so powerful and hopeful: Compassion and wisdom.

This event will be followed by a mini-retreat on the practice of Avalokiteshvara, Jan 1 & 2 called Imagination in Practice
